Environmental permits & notifications

According to the Environmental Protection Act (527/2014) and the Environmental Protection Decree (713/2014) issued under the Act, certain activities require an environmental permit. Activities that pose a risk of environmental pollution require an environmental permit, which is applied for either from the municipal environmental protection authority or the state environmental licensing authority, depending on the scale of the activity. Examples of activities subject to authorization are forestry, metal and chemical industries, energy production, professional waste treatment and animal shelters.

Other possible procedures for activities with less environmental impact are general notification and registration.

The environmental permit or the decision on the notification shall lay down provisions on emissions and their limitation, waste and its reduction, measures in the event of incidents and other measures to prevent the risk of pollution.
