Action areas, development plan and risk assessment
According to the Water Supply Act, the municipality must develop water supply in cooperation with the water supply companies in its area. The obligation to draw up a development plan was abolished for municipalities in 2014. The city council approved the previous water supply development plan on 19 April 2010.
The municipality approves the area of operation for the water utility operating in its territory and, if necessary, modifies the approved area of operation on the basis of a proposal from the water utility or, in the absence of such a proposal from the utility, after consulting the utility.
The area of operation was approved on 27 September 2010 and the decision to extend the area of operation was taken on 12 December 2011. The scope was updated on 4 September 2023.
The development plan is not being updated at the moment.

Summary of the risk assessment exercise
The city of Laitila Water Management Department has assessed the risks of production and distribution of domestic water. The most recent update of the risk assessment was carried out in 2022 and the risks were assessed according to the Water Safety Plan (WSP) methodology. The WSP is based on a model recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The risk assessment covered the entire production chain, from the aquifers surrounding the reservoirs to the site pipelines. The risk assessment assessed the functionality and vulnerability of the supply chain. The WSP tool was used to identify and describe the hazards in the water supply chain and assess the associated risks. Various management tools have been put in place to mitigate the most serious risks and a more comprehensive set of management tools is being developed.
